Biography

Anke Huckriede is Professor of Vaccinology at the Department of Medical Microbiology, University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands. She received her PhD in cell biology from the University of Bielefeld, Germany. After having worked as a postdoc on mitochondrial diseases she switched to the field of vaccine development working on tumor vaccines and vaccines for viral diseases. Currently, her interest is in rational vaccine design. The mission of her group is to integrate in-depth knowledge of the relevant correlates of immune protection with recent insights in immunology, in particular in mechanisms of innate immunology, to generate vaccines which are optimally suited to induce effective immune responses. Her work on influenza vaccines makes use of systems immunology techniques and aims a.o. at developing universal influenza and stabilized influenza vaccines for patient-friendly administration.
